License

Source available today. Apache 2.0 in two years, automatically.

kdashboard is published under the Functional Source License 1.1 with an Apache 2.0 future license. In plain words: use it for anything except building a competing product, and every release turns into Apache 2.0 on its second birthday whether we like it or not.

What happens to one release
RELEASE DAY FSL-1.1 · source available · use it for anything but a competing product + 1 YEAR nothing changes; the clock runs per release + 2 YEARS APACHE 2.0 · IRREVOCABLE
You may, today Run it at work, on as many machines and clusters as you like. Read the source, modify it, and run your fork internally. Use it for non-commercial research and education. Redistribute it, with the licence and notices intact.
You may not, for two years Offer it — or a fork of it — as a commercial product or service that substitutes for kdashboard. Substitute for any other product or service we offer using this software. Use the name or the logo to suggest we endorse your thing. That is the whole of the restriction. Everything else is permitted, and it expires.
Trademark The name kdashboard and the logo are trademarks of Folio Innova S.L.. The licence covers the code; it does not grant rights to the marks. You can say your tool works with kdashboard. You cannot ship a fork called kdashboard.
Price €0 there is no paid tier today
Seats unlimited no per-seat accounting, no licence server
Clusters unlimited as many contexts as your kubeconfig has
Abbreviation FSL-1.1 Apache-2.0 future license
Why not plain open source? Because a two-year delay is the honest version of what most “open core” products do permanently. You get the source, the right to run and fork it, and a date on which the restriction disappears — instead of a feature matrix with a locked column.
Is there a commercial licence? If you want to do something the FSL does not permit before the two years are up, write to us and we will tell you yes or no: maintainers@kdashboard.io.
